Aam Panna

Aam panna is a refreshing Indian summer drink made from raw mangoes. It’s usually a blend of raw mango pulp, sugar or jaggery, salt, and spices like roasted cumin powder and black salt. Sometimes mint leaves or other herbs are added for extra freshness.

Ingredients::

For The Aam Panna Detox :
  • 2-3 raw mangoes (depending on size)
  • 1 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon roasted cumin powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black salt (optional)
  • 1/2 cup fresh mint leaves
  • 4-5 cups water
  • Ice cubes (for serving)
  • Mint leaves or lemon slices (for garnish, optional)

Instructions:

  1. Boil the mangoes:
    • Wash the raw mangoes thoroughly. In a pot, add enough water to cover the mangoes and bring it to a boil. Add the whole mangoes to the boiling water and cook until they become soft and the skin starts to peel off. This usually takes about 20-25 minutes depending on the size and ripeness of the mangoes.
  2. Cool and peel:
    • Once the mangoes are soft, remove them from the boiling water and let them cool down. Once they are cool enough to handle, peel off the skin and discard it. Extract the pulp from the mangoes and discard the seeds.
  3. Blend the ingredients:
    • In a blender, add the mango pulp, sugar, salt, roasted cumin powder, black salt (if using), and fresh mint leaves. Blend until smooth. You can adjust the sweetness and saltiness according to your taste preferences by adding more sugar or salt if needed.
  4. Thin it out:
    • Gradually add water to the blended mixture and blend again until you achieve a smooth and pourable consistency. The amount of water can be adjusted based on how thick or thin you prefer your Aam Panna.
  5. Chill and serve:
    • Transfer the blended Aam Panna into a pitcher and refrigerate it for at least 1-2 hours to chill. Before serving, give it a good stir. Serve the chilled Aam Panna in glasses over ice cubes. Optionally, garnish each glass with a sprig of fresh mint leaves or a slice of lemon.
  6. Enjoy:
    • Sip and enjoy the refreshing and tangy flavors of homemade Aam Panna
  • It’s perfect for quenching thirst and cooling down on hot days, while also providing a dose of vitamins and minerals from the mangoes and mint. Plus, its vibrant yellow-green color is just as refreshing to look at as it is to drink!
